The COMPASS Junior Peacebuilders hosted the second meeting for the Youth Advocates for Change cohort, sponsored by the Nellie Mae Education Foundation. The meeting brought together other agencies from across New England that are working to build student leadership and advocacy; these organizations are also receipients of Nellie Mae’s Youth Advocates for Change Award.

Of that award, the Junior Peacebuilders received $84,000 to expand and develop the program. On August 14, 2015, COMPASS Junior Peacebuilders student representatives attended their first cohort meeting in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Under the guidance of COMPASS staff members Veronica Ruiz and Manuel Sandoval, the students will continue training on youth leadership, identify areas for advocacy, and plan a culminating, student led conference.

Learn More About This Initiative: The Nellie Mae Foundation supports four areas of student centered learning, as listed in their recent brochure.
