Eight of our Peacebuilders youth are experiencing the pride that comes with earning a paycheck. They are participating in a partnership between COMPASSS Youth Collaborative, the Community Safety Coalition and Capital Workforce Partners Summer Youth Employment and Learning Program. Before applying for jobs the youth worked with their Peacebuilders mentor building resumes, developing interviewing techniques and work readiness skills. Summer jobs provide an opportunity to learn important life skills. Earning money helps teach budgeting, while working in a business environment teaches teamwork, problem solving and communication skills. Studies show that summer employment improves academic performance, especially among lower-income teens. The summer jobs program is just one way COMPASS fulfils our mission, providing supports and opportunities for our youth to become ready, willing and able to succeed in education, employment and life. Thank you to the Capital Workforce Partners and Hartford Foundation for Public Giving for providing funding for this partnership.
