It’s in our Mission Statement, “COMPASS connects with high-risk youth wherever they are.” But what does that mean?

Well, it means two things, we connect with youth wherever they are physically and wherever they are emotionally.

COMPASS Peacebuilders meet young people in the streets, on the corner, at their homes, and in the Juvenile Detention Center. Often youth aren’t ready to come to our center; in those cases, we go to them.

What do we mean when we say we meet youth wherever they are emotionally? When we first reach out to a young person, they may not be open to hearing what we have to say. To build a transformative relationship, we first have to build trust. COMPASS Peacebuilders understand that. They work relentlessly to build that trust. They never give up; Peacebuilders meet youth where they are emotionally and work with them, providing the skills they need to succeed.
