COMPASS Peacebuilders develop meaningful relationships with youth. Simple activities such as sharing a meal, playing basketball, or, during COVID quarantines, playing a video game over an online platform, provides youth with a non-judgment space to talk. When youth are allowed space where they can make mistakes and discuss those mistakes, they grow.
Our staff asks restorative questions to better understand our youth. An example is “What was on your mind when that happened?” versus “What were you thinking when you did that” This type of question allows us to understand what thoughts and emotions might have motivated behavior and identify better ways for youth to express those thoughts and feelings in the future.
