Our Leadership Team

Larry Johnson
Director of Hospital and Crisis Response
As Director of Hospital and Crisis Response, Larry is responsible for COMPASS’s Hospital Violence Intervention Program and Community Crisis Response. A lifelong Hartford resident, Larry understands the unique challenges faced by the community he
serves. His commitment to his community is evident in his approach to his work.
Larry and his team are on call 24/7; the team plays a crucial role in supporting victims of violence during their hospital stay and throughout their healing journey.
When a victim of community violence under age 25 arrives at one of Hartford’s three emergency rooms, Larry activates the COMPASS Crisis Team. The team meets victims at the bedside and advocates for them with a culturally sensitive, trauma-informed approach. Larry has built strong, trusting relationships with the emergency room staff, enabling him to provide the best possible care for those he serves.
Larry is a certified Violence Prevention Professional, trained in Cognitive Behavioral Theory, and provides a Trauma-Informed Approach. A member of the National Health Alliance for Violence Intervention, Larry serves on the Reimagining Public Safety Task Force and the Racial Equity Task Force.
