Position Title: Director of Human Resources

Reports to:  Vice President of Finance and Administration

Position Summary: The Director of Human Resources creates and leads Human Resources practices and objectives that will provide employee-oriented, high performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity and standards, goal attainment, and the recruitment and on-going development of a superior workforce. Provides advice, assistance, and follow-up on company policies, procedures, and documentation. Coordinates the resolution of specific policy-related and procedural problems and inquires. Serves as the agency’s IT liaison by overseeing and maintaining the purchase, repair and development of IT equipment and systems. Acts as a facility manager for the administrative office by managing the procurement and repair of supplies and agency assets.  Maintains positive working relationship with new and existing vendors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all or part of these areas: recruiting and staffing logistics, organizational and space planning, performance management and improvement systems
  • Organization development, project management, employment and compliance to regulatory concerns and reporting, employee orientation, development, and training
  • Policy development and documentation

  • Compensation and benefits administration
  • Screen job applicants, review application/resume, evaluate applicant skills and make recommendations regarding applicant’s qualifications.
  • Prepare and maintain company salary structure, job documentation, and job evaluation system.
  • Design and conduct new employee orientations.
  • Administer and explain benefits to employees, serve as liaison between employees and insurance carriers.
  • Recommend, develop and schedule training and development courses specific to Human Resource practices.
  • Provide advice, assistance and follow-up on company policies, procedural problems and inquires.
  • Develop and update training systems necessary in daily operations.
  • Update and maintain employee handbook.
  • Perform specific research/investigation into operational issues as requested.
  • Conduct orientation sessions for new employees to explain personnel policies, compensation, benefit programs, and company culture.
  • Maintain employee files and records, assures completeness of files.
  • Responds to public inquires on positions available in employment
  • Log and expedite complaints, investigate all complaints and report to senior management on findings.
  • Generate correspondence as requested by the CEO utilizing knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Maintains and updates contact information to support communication with all necessary points of contact.
  • Prepares for and attends Unemployment Hearings.
  • Serve as point person for the purchase, repair and development of all IT equipment and systems.
  • Purchase and maintain all supplies and agency property within the administration office.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications (Including education, training and experience):

  • Master’s Degree preferred; minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or Organizational Development or equivalent experience
  • Two to three years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources positions
  • Three to five years’ experience working with Non-Profit Organizations
  • General knowledge of employment laws and practices
  • Experience in the administration of benefits and compensation programs and other Human Resource programs

  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills
  • Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality
  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Change Management: Able to adapt to frequent organizational change. Utilizes techniques to achieve the desired agency outcomes with little negative impact on the organizational climate and culture.

  • Compensation and Benefits Administration: Able to analyze data on wages and salaries, as well as the cost of the benefits. Assess and devise programs that best fit the organization and its employees.

  • Competency Management: Able to identify the key skills necessary for each employee to reach target performance in their specific role. Designing job descriptions that accurately capture those necessary skills.

Must have some experience working with individuals with lived experience (formerly incarcerated) and youth coming living in poverty/urban settings.

  • Employee Relations: Demonstrates knowledge of all aspects of employee relations which includes but not limited to handling grievances, resolving disputes that may arise between employees and management. Provides training and orientation to supervisors, managers, and employees.

  • Employment Legislation, Policies, and Procedures: Researches and stays current on legislation, policies, and procedures necessary to stay in compliance with the law. Designs policies, procedures, and development to ensure the agency provides tools and resources necessary to be the best employees.

  • Performance Management: Performance management’s goal is to create an environment where people can perform to the best of their abilities and produce the highest-quality work most efficiently and effectively.

  • Digital Literacy: Able to use digital technology and knowing when and how to use it. Understanding how to use web browsers, search engines, email, text, PowerPoint, video, Microsoft office, and HR Insperity platform. Evaluating online resources for accuracy/trustworthiness of information, and safety of website.

Salary Range: $65,000 – $70,000
